Vivere una vita assolutamente normale può essere frustrante, e questo il quattordicenne Yukio Tanaka lo sa bene. Sa anche che niente di questa sua piatta esistenza sarà mai degno di menzione in un’autobiografia, a meno di una radicale svolta. Una svolta, sì, ma quale? L’occasione si presenta sotto le vesti di un cane rattoppato che il ragazzo salva da un gruppetto di bulli. Il suo padrone è infatti Ryusuke Minami, un giovane dall’aria poco raccomandabile cresciuto a New York e tornato da poco in Giappone, nonchè un formidabile chitarrista, un talento naturale come se ne incontrano pochi in giro. Qualcosa nel nostro protagonista scatta: potrebbero essere Ryusuke e la sua musica la svolta che cambierà per sempre la sua vita? Nel dubbio, complice l’incontro col signor Saito - ex campione olimpico nonché istruttore di nuoto barra datore di lavoro barra insegnante di musica - Yukio prova ad imparare a suonare la chitarra. Sarà vera passione o piuttosto solo un modo per far colpo sulla senpai Izumi Ishiguro, colei che alle elementari lo soprannominò Koyuki e che gli ha fatto conoscere la musica dei celebri Dying Breed?
