Jasmin è una grassa signora tedesca che, durante un viaggio turistico negli Usa, viene abbandonata dal marito. Trova alloggio in uno sgangherato motel, chiamato Bagdad, di cui Brenda è la regina. All'inizio Jasmin prova repulsione per il luogo e per i suoi abitanti, ma poi, lentamente, entra in sintonia con loro. Scaduto il visto di permanenza, Jasmin deve tornare in Germania, ma ormai il suo cuore rimane lì, al Bagdad Café.
