Il tunnel sottomarino che unisce l'isola di Manhattan al New Jersey viene attraversato ogni giorno da un numero enorme di pendolari. Una sera, durante l'ora di punta, un incidente stradale causa un'esplosione devastante: il tunnel si trasforma in un inferno di lamiere contorte mentre gli scoppi di combustibile si succedono inarrestabili; e questa situazione mette a repentaglio un piccolo numero di sopravvissuti.
