In un quartiere un tempo decoroso, a Brooklyn, un giovane spacciatore si ritrova con l'esistenza sconvolta e le ore contate: gli danno la caccia un detective e un boss intenzionato a proteggere i propri interessi ad ogni costo. Su questo sfondo si scontrano i valori tradizionali e le lusinghe della strada. Intanto i cittadini onesti degli stabili popolari combattono una guerra perenne contro gli spacciatori, i "clockers", che invece agli occhi dei ragazzini del quartiere rappresentano l'immagine del successo e della popolarità.
