Peter von Kleist, discendente di un feroce barone vissuto nel XVII secolo, possiede una rarissima pergamena recante le istruzioni per un sortilegio capace di resuscitare l'avo "maledetto". Accompagnato dalla studentessa Eva Arnold, Peter penetra nel maniero e recita la formula magica: lo spettro si risveglia e uccide tre persone. Intanto, un misterioso paralitico di nome Alfred Becker acquista il castello e lo ristruttura, diventando amico di Eva, di Peter e di suo zio, il professor Karl Hummer: ma c'è chi giura che l'identità di Becker sia ben diversa...
